At Protect America, we’ve put together a list of the 10 cities in North Carolina with the lowest burglary rates.

We call these cities “Burglary Safe Zones.” We’ve also made a list of the 10 cities in North Carolina with the highest burglary rates. We call these cities “Burglary Hot Spots.”

Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.


2016 North Carolina Burglary Safe Zones

  1. Pinehurst
    • Population 15,617, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The owner and promoter of the WWE Professional Wrestling Organization is from Pinehurst.
  2. Laurel Park
    • Population 2,303, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The Singletary-Reese Robinson House in Laurel was placed on the list of National Register of Historic Places for 2010.
  3. Richlands
    • Population 1,709, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: This was the first city with a female mayor in it’s county of Onslow. Annette Hargett was the mayor.
  4. Bethel
    • Population 1,632, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: There are three towns in North Carolina named Bethel.
  5. Rutherfordton
    • Population 4,158, Burglaries 4
    • Town trivia: Rutherfordton is the county seat of Ruherford County.
  6. Cape Carteret
    • Population 2,073, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: Cape Carteret was incorporated in 1959.
  7. Maysville
    • Population 1,011, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The Maysville population was reported to be 1,019 in 2010.
  8. Whispering Pines

    • Town trivia: Famous TNA Wrestler, Shannon Moore, is from Whispering Pines.

    • Town trivia: Duck has been appeared on many list for best coastable or beach town, including mentions by USA Today, Travel Channel, and US News.
  2. North Topsail Beach
    • Population 732, Burglaries 42
    • Town trivia: Located on Topsoil Island and home to 743 people.
  3. Nags Head
    • Population 2,860, Burglaries 159
    • Town trivia: The town was incorporated in 1961.
  4. Lumberton
    • Population 21,746, Burglaries 742
    • Town trivia: The town is located on the Lumber River and began as a location for lumber shipments from the U.S. Navy.
  5. Highlands
    • Population 927, Burglaries 31
    • Town trivia: The 2010 U.S. Census recorded a permanent population of 924, but Highlands can grow to as many as 20,000 people during the spring or fall.
  6. Atlantic Beach
    • Population 1,507, Burglaries 46
    • Town trivia: A bridge connects Atlantic Beach and Morehead City.
  7. Williamston

    • Town trivia: The town rests on the Roanoke River.
