At Protect America, we’ve put together a list of the 10 cities in Ohio with the lowest burglary rates.

We call these cities “Burglary Safe Zones.” We’ve also made a list of the 10 cities in Ohio with the highest burglary rates. We call these cities “Burglary Hot Spots.”

Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.


2016 Ohio Burglary Safe Zones

  1. Perkins Township
    • Population 11,872, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: Perkins Township is the only township in the County of Erie that has thier own police department.
  2. Chardon
    • Population 5,195, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Chardon is the only city that is incorporated in Geauga County.
  3. New Philadelphia
    • Population 17,479, Burglaries 4
    • Town trivia: The city of New Philadelphia was founded in 1804.
  4. American Township
    • Population 12,300, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: American Township used to be named “German Township.”
  5. Reminderville
    • Population 3,967, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Reminderville was incorporated in 1955.
  6. St. Clair Township
    • Population 7,772, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: There are two St. Clair Townships. One is located in Butler County, and the other in Columbiana County.
  7. Northfield
    • Population 3,636, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The United States Census Bureau reports that Northfield only has 1.08 square miles of land.
  8. Chester Township
    • Population 10,393, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: Chester Township was founded in 1816.
  9. Mariemont
    • Population 3,383, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: The United States Census reports that Mariemont only has 0.89 square miles.
  10. Middlefield
    • Population 2,711, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Middlefield is the fourth largest Amish settlement in the world, and home to Duncan Toys.

  1. Magnolia
    • Population 975, Burglaries 28
    • Town trivia: Magnolia is in both Carroll and Stark Counties.
  2. Youngstown
    • Population 64,608, Burglaries 1,144
    • Town trivia: Youngstown was once home to Ed O’Neil, actor.
  3. Springfield
    • Population 59,804, Burglaries 1,045
    • Town trivia: Springfield is known as “The Rose City.”
  4. Dayton
    • Population 140,683, Burglaries 2,412
    • Town trivia: The Wright Brothers, who invented the airplane, were from Dayton, Ohio
  5. Whitehall
    • Population 18,661, Burglaries 316
    • Town trivia: The city was incorporated in 1947 after spending the rest of the 1940’s as a village.
  6. Canton
    • Population 72,111, Burglaries 1,194
    • Town trivia: The town was used in a “Star Trek: Voyager” episode as the home for the Millennium Gate.
  7. Mansfield
    • Population 46,605, Burglaries 764
    • Town trivia: “The Fun Center of Ohio” is Mansfield’s offical nickname.
  8. Portsmouth
    • Population 20,346, Burglaries 322
    • Town trivia: Great Corby, England; Orizaba, Mexico; and Zittau, Sachsen, Germany; are all sister cities of Portsmouth.
  9. Lima
    • Population 38,154, Burglaries 603
    • Town trivia: Lima is the only producer of M1 Abrams military tanks and home to the Lima Army Tank Plant .
  10. Chillicothe

    • Town trivia: Chillicothe is a sister city of Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico, and Tulua, Valle del Cauca, Columbia.
