For quite some time, Protect America’s marketing and development departments have collectively been working on a brand new website. While it has been a long process, the outcome has drastically improved the way visitors (just like you) are able to navigate each page. We are always aiming to increase the usability and overall experience that each person has when they come to our website. In this post, we interview Protect America’s very own Creative Director, Waldy Przybyslawski, in order to gain a better perspective on how the new protectamerica.com came to be and why. Let’s take a closer look!

A Word from the Creative Director

“Over the past year and a half, I’ve had the incredible opportunity and pleasure to lead the creative direction of redesigning the Protect America online user experience and presence.  Throughout this long and often humbling process, we’ve sent out questionnaires, gathered information through phone calls, and completed countless UX tests in order to provide our visitors with an engaging, informative, and perhaps even fun online destination. And we feel like we’ve accomplished this with the new design.

Many hours of collaboration between our marketing, sales, installation, CARE, and accounting departments resulted in content and visuals that are more cohesive and consistent than ever; we created entertaining and informative animations, as well as re-shot all photography to better suit the new design and better convey how we see our equipment – not just as random pieces of white plastic around you house, but important lifestyle security equipment that provides peace of mind for you and your family.

Our biggest challenge involved creating engaging user interactions and a beautiful online environment while providing nearly instant ease-of-access to all relevant information. There is always a fine line between what looks good and the practical application of information within creative layouts; all relevant content should be within two clicks at maximum in order to prevent frustration and create an engaging user experience.

In this blog post, I’d like to briefly explain our fancy new navigation system.

If you’ve used a drop down navigation system before, you’ll instantly be familiar with how ours works. In comparison to the old system which required clicks in order to pull down additional items, this navigation works on hover and features further relevant information. We also implemented a gentle dimming of the screen to help users with mixed quality monitors easily scan and read different options. Finally, through some Javascript code magic, we were able to create a “cone of activation” that follows your mouse movements – this enables users to move over to further options without the need for exact horizontal precision. This was a particularly important feature for our older visitors.”
