An Introduction to Landline Monitoring

Landline monitoring means connecting your home security system to a standard telephone connection. The standard connection for most home security systems uses landline monitoring. We utilize your telephone connection to communicate with our professional monitoring facility. Using landline monitoring requires no extra set up and simply connects right into your current home telephone line. If you choose this option, be sure that your home actual has a landline telephone line because many modern homes do not have this option. Landline monitoring is perfect for homes that are in cell dead-zones or lack high speed internet. It is also the most affordable monitoring solution available with our Copper Package starting at $19.99!

How it Works

Many consumers are confused about landline monitoring. There is the idea that with landline monitoring, you won’t have the option for a wireless alarm system. This is not true. Landline connection refers only to the way the control panel sends signals to the central monitoring station. Whereas, the alarm systems motion detectors, smoke detectors, cameras, etc. can either be hardwired to the control panel or connect wirelessly and run on battery-power.

Anytime the security system is triggered, the command station sends a signal through the landline phone to our monitoring facility and notifies us about a problem in your home. Depending on the nature of the problem, our monitoring facility will respond to your alarm and dispatch the emergency authorities to your home.

The only real downfall to landline monitoring is if you were caught in the unlikely situation of having a highly knowledgeable burglar target your home. Hypothetically if this burglar were to cut the landline wire outside of your home before breaking, entering, and setting off the alarm – it would compromise your home security system’s ability to connect to the central monitoring station. If the alarm goes off before the burglar cuts the wire, then there is still a chance that the central monitoring station received the notice. However, for this reason, we recommend our safest option; cellular monitoring.

Two-Way Voice Feature

With landline monitoring you do have an addition option to add a feature called two-way voice. Two-Way Voice allows you to communicate directly through a built-in microphone to our monitoring station when you need it the most. When the alarm is triggered at your home, the security system uses your landline phone to send the signal to our monitoring facility. Once we have received that signal, our monitoring facility will be able to communicate with you directly through the talking command station in order to verify the problem and respond accordingly. This gives you have direct access to our monitoring station in case of an emergency and a helpful and knowledgeable real-life person is waiting to help you.
