At Protect America, we’ve put together a list of the 10 cities in Massachusetts with the lowest burglary rates.

We call these cities “Burglary Safe Zones.” We’ve also made a list of the 10 cities in Massachusetts with the highest burglary rates. We call these cities “Burglary Hot Spots.”

Our lists are based on data from the recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. We only counted cities that submitted burglary data.

2016 Massaschusetts Burglary Safe Zones

  1. Hopkinton
    • Population 16,668, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Hopkinton is the starting point of the Boston Marathon.
  2. Groveland
    • Population 7,211, Burglaries 1
    • Town trivia: Paul Revere crafted the bell at the Congretional Church in Groveland.
  3. Wayland
    • Population 13,679, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: Lead vocalist of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler, is from Wayland. He hosted the first and last concert at Wayland High School.
  4. Weston
    • Population 12,159, Burglaries 2
    • Town trivia: A 2010 Forbes survey ranked Weston the 97th wealthiest U.S. Zip Code.
  5. Clinton
    • Population 13,786, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: The city says they have the oldest baseball field that’s continuously used in the world, Fuller Field, which was created in 1878.
  6. Boxford
    • Population 8,275, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: Boxford still uses the open town meeting style of government.
  7. Rockport
    • Population 7,229, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: During the Industrial Revolution, Rockport was a major source for granite.
  8. Marshfield
    • Population 25,751, Burglaries 11
    • Town trivia: The city is named after salt marshes and brackish borders around the town.
  9. Dover
    • Population 5,952, Burglaries 3
    • Town trivia: In the early 1960’s, as much as 75% of the town’s yearly budget was spent on snow removal, because only a mile and a half of the roads in Middleton are state highway.
  10. Middleton
    • Population 9,736, Burglaries 5
    • Town trivia: One of the oldest trees in Massachusetts aged at about 400 years old is located in Middleton on 39 Peabody Street.

  1. Pittsfield
    • Population 43,450, Burglaries 414
    • Town trivia: Pittsfield was listed as the 20th “Most Secure Place to Live” in a 2005 report by Farmers Insurance.
  2. Southbridge
    • Population 16,856, Burglaries 160
    • Town trivia: The city has been given the unofficial title of “Eye of Commonwealth,” because of it’s history in manufacturing optical products.
  3. Springfield
    • Population 154,090, Burglaries 1,303
    • Town trivia: James Naismith invented the game of basketball in Springfield in December of 1891.
  4. Holyoke
    • Population 40,178, Burglaries 334
    • Town trivia: The sport of volleyball was invented in the former Holyoke YMCA by William G. Morgan in February of 1895.
  5. Stockbridge
    • Population 1,951, Burglaries 16
    • Town trivia: The town was illustrated in a painting by famous resident Norman Rockwell titled “Main Street, Stockbridge at Christmas.” The final scene of “Good Will Hunting” was shot in the city, and the sitcom “Something Wilder” with Gene Wilder took place in Stockbridge.
  6. North Adams

    • Town trivia: The largest museum for contempory art in the entire United States,the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, is in North Adams.
  7. Fitchburg
    • Population 40,467, Burglaries 315
    • Town trivia: The fictional Quidditch team from Harry Potter is from Fitchburg. They are called the Fitchburg Finches.
  8. Falmouth
    • Population 31,666, Burglaries 245
    • Town trivia: Actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and brother of Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck is from Falmouth.
  9. Chicopee
    • Population 55,926, Burglaries 419
    • Town trivia: The city has been touted as the “Crossroads of New England,” due to a business-development marketing campaign that wanted to acknowledge the cities proximity to other metro areas.
  10. Chatham
    • Population 6,159, Burglaries 46
    • Town trivia: The Chatham Lighhouse was established by President Thomas Jefferson in an effort to protect ships that were circling the cape in 1808.
