Sometimes, it is convenient to intentionally disarm one or two areas within your home, while the remainder of the house or property stays under protection. Deactivating certain zones requires the user to set a bypass so that an alarm is not sounded when entering that area. While your level of security may be reduced, the bypass feature allows movement in areas while other areas stay under protection.

Every homeowner should have a home security checklist to prevent making it easy for burglars to target your home. Keep in mind, setting a bypass for a zone is temporary, as stated in the ADT manual:

Zones cannot be bypassed once the system is armed. Bypassed zones are automatically canceled each time the system is disarmed and must be bypassed again, if required, before the next arming.

You may desire to deactivate your security system in one or more zones because you are working in that area or children are at play. Or maybe you desire to open a few windows or a door on a nice day.  The benefit to having the bypass revert to its normal armed status the next time you arm the system makes it impossible to forget to re-arm the system. This would leave an area of your home unprotected.

  • Enter the 2 digit zone numbers (01-64) to bypass
  • To save this selection, enter 9,5
  • Press "#" to return to Ready State
