If you’re looking for the best smart thermostats that use Amazon Alexa, look no further.  Protect America has recommendations for the best smart thermostats that use Alexa in 2018.  They include:

  • Ecobee4
  • Nest Thermostat E
  • Emerson Sensi

Hello Alexa — You’re in My Thermostat? The Ecobee4

The Ecobee3 and its family is very impressive when it comes to smart thermostats — and they work with Alexa to boot. But the Ecobee4  goes one better: it has Alexa built right into the thermostat.  It’s such an impressive thermostat that CNET claims it’s the best smart thermostat on the market today. In fact, CNET goes out on a limb and claims it beats its competitor, Nest, hands down.  It can do everything Alexa can do (it does have Alexa in it, right?) and can even play music (although the speaker is not so great for that), but it does not have Amazon’s Echo Spatial Perception or ESP feature, which can make it a bit of a headache if you have an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot within range. That being aside, you can ask your thermostat information like weather reports or ask it to tell you a joke. At a $249 list price from Amazon, it is one of the most pricey thermostats on the market.  If you already have an Echo or Echo Dot, you might want to consider the less expensive line of Ecobee 3s.

“Sure, the Nest Thermostat E isn’t as swank as the original Nest Thermostat, but it has much of the same features, and for $169 Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, you can overlook it.”

The Nest Thermostat E — Like the Nest Thermostat, but Lower Cost

Nest has an impressive thermostat, but for those who think that $249 for the Nest Thermostat is expensive for even a smart thermostat, the Nest Thermostat E is your option. Sure, the Nest Thermostat E isn’t as swank as the original Nest Thermostat, but it has much of the same features, and for $169 Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, you can overlook it.  The plastic case that houses it doesn’t look as cool as the Nest Thermostat, and the numbers are a bit more difficult to read, made less so because of the lower resolution display and the lack of Nest Farsight.  (Farsight will sense when you’re looking at it and shows the temperature, time, or the weather.)

Emerson Sensi — When You’re Looking for a Decent Smart Thermostat

Emerson Sensi goes for $159 Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, but you can find it a lot cheaper on the web if you do some looking around.   The average prices at retailers is around $130.  Although Emerson Sensi doesn’t have geofencing, remote sensors, or fancy programming, it interfaces with Alexa just fine and its menus are really intuitive. If you’re not a geek who has to have the latest and greatest toy when it comes to smart thermostats in your home, this is the one that will keep your home warm and cool without a lot of fuss. Okay, sure, it won’t make your coffee or tell you the latest joke, but did you really need that coming from your smart thermostat?

No matter how smart your thermostat is, it isn’t really designed to keep your home safe.  It’s a thermostat, right?  That’s why you shouldn’t trust your smart thermostat to protect your home and your belongings — that’s a job for your home security system.  Contact us at Protect America for a free quote.
