Mobile, Alabama -- April 28, 2014 –The University of South Alabama and home security giant Protect America have announced this year's winner of the charitable communications project "Pay It Forward" as student team Odd Goat Agency. The Pay It Forward Challenge tasks Advertising student groups with seeking local nonprofit organizations who they take as a client for an entire semester. The student agencies perform advertising, marketing, public relations and communications work for the charities and present their work for consideration at the end of the semester.
Odd Goat Agency’s nonprofit client was Mulherin Home, providing 24 hour/365 day residential care for individuals with developmental disabilities in a loving home-like environment, with an emphasis on quality of life. Odd Goat Agency focused on personifying and humanizing the Mulherin Home brand with real employees and residents with a campaign called “Anchored by Love”. The students executed a fundraising event and also created a promotional video for Mulherin Home.
University of South Alabama Department of Communication Chair Jim Aucoin, speaking at the Pay It Forward awards ceremony, said "What concluded was amazing. One of the things students learned was humility and they learned compassion. It was a very good experience and I am very proud of them."
In total, all 5 student agencies at the University of South Alabama helped raise $9,279 for their charity clients and gained 1,757 social media users for the nonprofit brands.
