Disconnect your control panel.

  1. Disarm your system.
  2. Unplug the control panel’s a/c adaptor from the wall outlet.
  3. Locate the red wires on the back of the panel (if your panel is wall-mounted, these wires may be on the inside of the panel).
  4. Unclip the wires from one another to power off the battery in the panel.
  5. Check that the panel is completely powered down by pressing any buttons. You should not hear any noise from the control panel.

Prepare and disconnect your sensors.

  1. Remove and label all of your sensors. Labeling your sensors will help you know where to mount these sensors in your new home.
  2. Remove the batteries from sensors that have their own internal sirens, such as: Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Touchscreen Touchpads, and Talking Touchpads.

Check if you need a permit.

Contact the law enforcement agency for the jurisdiction where your new home is located and confirm whether a permit is required for your security system. They will provide you with the process for obtaining the necessary permit. Make sure to record the permit number provided by the jurisdiction.
